Day 1 of travelling

We got to Mom's at NOON where Al met us to say 'good-bye' (how sweet). Mom got home from work shortly after, and Irene & kids met us at her house to wish safe travels. She brought goodies for us to share. Travelling went well, once we figured out how to diffuse the LOUD whirring sound from the car top carrier when driving on the highway. We had to stop by sister Irene's to 'fix' the problem, and I found a scrap piece of carpet that worked beautifully. We got to see Irene & Jelte's beautiful new property at the same time.

In Saskatchewan, we saw an odd looking vehicle on the road. As we approached, we noticed the licence plate was from BRAZIL!!!!! And, we thought we were travelling far...

Well, Saskatchewan has lots of flat and empty land, tumble weeds blowing across the road, road kill here and there, and HOT temperatures. It was plus +32 celsius here yesterday.

We enjoyed a good sleep, and had breakfast with Henry & Suzanne, and their kids (Caleb & Sarah), and Suzanne's mom -- Anita. Caleb & Nathan played like long-lost buddies, and made plans to 'play' again tomorrow. Sadly, we won't be here.

Oh, The Places You'll Go!

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
Congratulations!
Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourselfany direction you choose.

OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO! You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high flierswho soar to high heights. You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed. You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.

Yep, today is the day!!! I know Dr. Seuss didn't mean those words for a trip exactly, but somehow I couldn't get them out of my mind. On a side note, Deon received his learner's licence in the mail today, so it looks like he gets to share in the driving -- highway driving, if nothing else.

eeeek...1 more sleep

Writing from Edmonton, Alberta for the last time!!!

Today, we will spend our time packing, organizing, and loading our van. With all the 'stuff' we NEED to take, our back end may be hitting bottom....After a year and a half of planning, it's exciting to be starting our journey across our vast and diverse country [and stunningly beautiful] country tomorrow morning.

Our first stop will be in REgina SK; the only stop we will be making in that province. We've seen it before, and don't really need to see it again, but must travel through it. Hence, we will spend the evening/night with old friends from Edmonton who have moved on to Regina to pastor a church there. After breakfast with them, and joining them in their new church home, we will move on to a small town near Winnipeg. We hope to arrive there by Sunday evening, spending the night with a cousin of mine from my Dad's side (Betty Ann) and her family.

Next week Saturday, at this time...

... we will be in Regina already! Wow! It's getting so exciting!!!! I love the planning stage, but yet all the details are somewhat mind boggling! I also love chatting with my Mom every day right now...'cause we have to, but it's great! We're now preparing our 'lists' of things to take, hoping not to forget anything.

What a FIELDTRIP this will be! We're so thankful to God for allowing us this opportunity together!

9 days...and counting

Nathan said to me today, 'Mom, it's only 9 days until we leave. I remember when it was 14 days, and it seemed so far away!"

Counting Down the Days on 2 Hands

Counting Down the Days Wow....in 10 days we will be on the road. Hard to believe, and so exciting!!!! We are busy preparing, and busy getting caught up on the endless list of duties that need to be covered while we are away. Deon & Nathan are hurriedly trying to complete their end-of-the-year lessons, and preparing to be in the car for many days. I still wonder how Nathan will do...having to sit still is not one of his strong points. Deon, on the other hand, looks forward to endless hours of reading, provided there's enough room in the vehicle for his 6'4" frame!!

And, we continue to pray that Randy will heal before we go. thankfully, things look like they are improving. He still struggles with weakness and pain in his right leg, causing him sleepless nights, and an inability to function with that leg.

My Mom is excited too, and I am so thankful she can come on this journey with us. What memories for me, for her, and for my boys.

One thing is sure....I will miss my baby lots! That's been on my mind too, wondering how we will both be not seeing each other for 5 1/2 weeks, and for the boys too!
