Mom took me by their very first house (and thus my first home as a child) in Laurel, Ontario. Tiny by today's standards for sure. My Dad could never sit still very long, and moved us to a house in Waldemar when I was 2. In Mom's words, they had plans to add on to this cute house (although now run down), until spring came & they had to sell as they had "the whole Grand River in their basement".
We made it to Mom's friend's house (childhood friends!!!) near Elora...our GPS took us here. They live on a beautiful acreage, where Uncle Henk runs a wood workshop and Auntie Chris works for a landscaping company. It's very relaxing here, and the boys appreciated being able to run around, jump on the tramp, and enjoy some different wildlife: black squirrels, red cardinals, and yellow finches; and great stories from Uncle Henk.
We plan to drive through Amish country today. WooHoo!! I'm fascinated to see them, probably 'cause I've read so many Amish books and will somehow connect fiction to reality.
Tonight, we reunite with my Dad's side of the family, where we will see many of his siblings, their children, and many grandchildren.
