Today, we left our cute, cozy cottage in PEI after breakfast. We debated whether to take the ferry to Nova Scotia (less driving, but more expensive), or to take the Confederation Bridge back to New Brunswick ($42 toll fee vs $140 ferry fee) and then drive to Cape Breton. We chose the latter, and so we had a good day of driving. It rained most of the day, and the clouds were low, making us feel a little closed in.
Once at the tourist info office in Cape Breton, we discussed accommodation arrangements again, and settled on a hostel near Baddeck. Prices for accommodation here are definitely more than on PEI.
Cape Breton is very pretty.....lots of greenery & rolling hills & water. It's got a Swiss look to it...reminds me of "The Sound of Music".
We settled there, and then took a drive a little ways up the infamous Cabot Trail to the town of Baddek where the Alexander Graham Bell museum is (a National Site). We found out that Bell was involved in much more than the invention of the telephone -- he was actively involved in teaching the deaf to speak (his wife was deaf, and he even tutored Helen Keller), designing flying boats, and all kinds of other doodads! He was basically a wiz at everything.
Before heading home, Mom said I should try and see a doctor. I haven't been feeling great for a few weeks -- even before I left home. We went to the hospital in Baddeck. Service here was great!!! I was in & out of the hospital -- emergency -- within 15 minutes. The doc figured out pretty quickly that I have a very swollen lymphnode on the right side...so hoping the antibiotics will do their work and I'll be feeling better soon.
At the hostel we're staying at, we have the top level (2 bedrooms, sitting area, and full bath), so it's somewhat private, other than a shared kitchen downstairs. We were able to get our laundry all done here this evening, enjoy supper together, play games, and of course, update our blog. We're now enjoying a plate of nachos & cheese, with salsa...prepared by Deon.
