We stopped in Lunenberg 'cause it was supposed to be pretty. It was okay, but nothing great.
We then went to Birchtown to see the Black Loyalist Museum there (--first black settlement in Canada), but the museum was closed. There was an outdoors area that we walked, which was enlightening in its own way. After driving to buy ketchup & relish (we left ours in one of the hostels in Cape Breton), we had a picnic lunch there.
On to Digby...Randy's hometown. We started out by trying to find the home that Randy grew up in for 12 years...this was a bit of a challenge because we didn't have an address to go by, only Randy's directions.
We knew the house was out of town a bit, and headed that direction. After driving around for about 20 minutes, we stopped and asked a couple guys if they knew where 'Claire Barton's' house was -- Randy's grandmother. Interestingly, they thought for a bit and then said "Oh, you mean Booie". That was her nickname. The one gentleman 'Doug' offered to drive us. We found the house and took some pictures before carrying on to the town.
We enjoyed a relaxing walk along the wharf and main street area, before stopping for a bite to eat at Recardo's Pizza -- this is the restaurant where one of Randy's best friends from high school works & has worked for years. Here we enjoyed yummy pizza, and Mom & I tried a donair egg roll. We got to meet Randy's friend Tim & his dad & visited with them a while.
At 7:30 pm we left for our Halifax hostel -- we had a 2 1/2 hour drive yet. Somewhere's down the highway, we spotted a turtle on the side of the road, and turned back to take some photos, and touch it. We also finally took pictures of the beautiful lupins that grow wild in the ditches all over Nova Scotia & PEI.
Finally home again at 10:00 pm....our 7 hour day turned into one over 12 hours, and we were pretty tuckered out, but had a really nice day (it helped that the weather was great too).
