We enjoyed our Sunday morning service in Wycocomagh, and found Rev. Lees a little colorful. He had a strong Scottish accent, and spoke with a lot of enthusiasm and fervor. We left that little church building smiling, with hymns in our minds.
Travelling to Nova Scotia, our beautiful sunny skies turned cloudy again. We made it to the Halifax area by 3:00 ish and decided to take some time in Peggy's Cove. We first made a stop at the memorial site where the Swiss Air plane crashed 12 years ago. We spent time there reflecting...what a shock that must have been to the nearby communities.
Then, running nearly on empty, we drove on to Peggy's Cove thinking there'd be a gas station really close by. What a beautiful sight Peggy's Cove was...so picturesque. You really have to see it in person to appreciate it.
The boys had a blast running and exploring along the rocks & the oceans, and jumping "chasms".
Nathan really needed that time to burn off energy...he was getting very restless in the vehicle. We spent a couple hours enjoying the peace and tranquility here, before heading into our nearly fuel-empty vehicle.
We went another 15 kms or so (the gas light had been on for some time before that), and saw a small community with more houses than Neerlandia. We thought for sure there'd be a gas station. Stopping a resident at the end of his driveway, we asked if he could direct us to the gas station. When he asked how soon we needed one, we knew we were in trouble. Turns out the gas station was close to 20 kms away....well, this guy Doug happened to have a few litres in a jerry can, and he put it in our tank at no cost!! That got us to the next community.
We made it to the Halifax Hostel at 6:30 pm, and were relieved to find that they had spaghetti made -- we really didn't feel up to cooking! Mom & I went for a walk along the water and passed Pier 21 (the immigration post for many years), while the boys stayed at the hostel and relaxed.
