Finally...the Ocean

Today we drove Highway 108 from Edmunston to Nelson...a horrible highway -- very narrow, with lots of pot holes & bumps, lots of trees and NO ONE on the road for 2 hours!! It gave us a chance to continue our Adventures in Odyssey series -- NovaCom.

We arrived in Nelson around 12:30 pm and checked into our B & B (what used to be a hostel) --- it's called the Governor's Mansion, and was just that at one point. The Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick lived here for many years. An old, old house built in the 1700's and 1800's, and HUGE!!! We have 2 of the bedrooms upstairs and an adjoining bath.

The lady that runs the B & B connected us with a friend of hers who lives on the ocean. It was a cooler day (about 17 degrees, & very windy).

We entered our GPS coordinants, and drove about 45 minutes to Escuminac Beach....here we met Monica who runs this glorious beach. Monica took us to the fish market near by to purchase live lobster. Upon return to the beach, we cooked & ate the lobster (except Deon, for whom we had to buy CHICKEN!!). Even Mom ate a whole lobster -- her very first one!! It was a messy job, but Monica did an excellent job of showing us the right way to eat a lobster, and how to eat every little bit of it, except the shell & a small pocket of waste. Although we could've eaten the red lobster eggs in the females & the green 'guck' called tamale, none of us could stomach it...

We then walked the ocean beach for about an hour, finding all kinds of neat treasures -- clams, shells, sea urchins, drift wood, crab shells, and a lot of other debris that the waves brought up. The boys had a blast, and Nathan said, "FINALLY, SOMETHING EXCITING I CAN WRITE IN MY JOURNAL ABOUT". Deon indicated, "This was what he was looking forward to the most."

  1. Love the picture of Mom eating a lobster! I tried one once and wasn't impressed, I'm with Deon on the chicken. And gorgeous ocean shore pictures!

  4. It was a thrill...to watch Mom eat the lobster. I already knew Nathan would enjoy it 'cause he's a seafood lover.
